The nutrition pyramid
The key to healthy eating is the right combination of food
as demonstrated by the pyramid (right). Complex carbohydrates should form the cornerstone of the diet, with five portions being consumed daily. i.e. a portion of either rice, pasta cereals, bread and legumes. Five portions of fruits and vegetables should also be eaten daily. Milk and milk products, (three portions a day) are also of fundamental importance to healthy eating. Fish, meat, poultry and eggs, on the other hand, should be eaten only two-three times a week. At the top of the pyramid, fats, sweets and alcohol should be consumed only in very small quantities. |
